Don’t Make These Three Entre-Mistakes!

June 12, 2013 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott
20130612-100411.jpg

Starting a new business involves making plenty of mistakes. I’m sharing three big mistakes I made in hopes that you can avoid them!

1. Not having a written business plan

20130612-095502.jpg

If your dream is starting a business, you need a business plan. No, that doesn’t mean 30 pages of MBA worthy material. It’s simple a written plan that answers these core questions: What am I here to sell? Who am I selling it to? How will they found out about it? How much money will I make selling it? Six months AFTER launching my business, I sat down and wrote a business plan. It was eye-opening! It opened doors as well. Suddenly when asked, “How do you make money as a life coach?” I had a better answer than: “By enrolling clients…hopefully!” You don’t have a business until you have a plan. “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

2. Not working with a coach to build your business right away.

20130612-095757.jpg

If you balk at the cost of quality 1-on-1 coaching when starting your business and opt to take the self-guided “affordable” route, then consider the cost of this blind leading the blind strategy. Making rookie mistakes will cost you far more money from the start than what it costs to invest in quality coaching for yourself and your business. I wasted more money and time my first 6 months in business than the most expensive coaching programs I said ‘no thanks’ to early on. Then, by the time I realized the damage I was doing, I barely had enough money to get the coaching I needed. Find your ideal coaching partner NOW and make the investment in yourself! Instead of saying ‘I can’t afford it”, work your resources to make it happen. Try negotiating a payment plan.

3. Not admitting you are terrified.

20130612-100424.jpg

Yes, you read that right. It’s a fact of like that starting a new business is
some scary stuff! That fear will lead to failure if you don’t know what to do with it. Hiding from fear doesn’t work. Facing your fears so you can overcome them is the best, and hardest thing, for any startup entrepreneur to do. Awareness of that fear allows you to explore ways to shift your emotions so that you can take action anyway. Action is where the money is. I didn’t realize or admit how scared I was until I was almost ready to give up on my business. Only once I gave myself permission to admit I was afraid was I able to do something about it. Learn what to do with your fear. Face it so you can shift it.

How to RISE Above Resisting Emotional Energy

May 14, 2013 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott
You can RISE above resisting emotional energy.

You can RISE above resisting emotional energy.

It takes some strong emotional muscles to shift your emotional energy where it needs to be to get powerful result. Here is a special process I’ve developed to help with that called RISE.

  1. RECOGNIZE that the resisting emotional energy that you are feeling that is slowing or stopping you from progress towards your desired outcomes.
  2. IDENTIFY the allowing emotional energy you’d like to feel that will help you move forward, or move faster, towards your desired outcomes.
  3. SUMMARIZE the tactics you can use to help you feel the allowing emotional energy.
  4. EXECUTE 1-2 things on that list until you have shifted into a more allowing emotion.

Here’s a template you can use to work through this process:

RECOGNIZE: “I am feeling (insert resisting emotional energy) which is slowing or stopping me from being/doing/having (insert desired outcome).”

IDENTIFY: “Feeling (insert allowing emotional energy) would help me move forward, or faster, towards being/doing/having (insert desired outcome).”

SUMMARIZE: “Here is a list of some things could make me feel (insert allowing emotional energy listed above) right now: (list your feel-good tactics)”

EXECUTE: “I will do the following (choose a feel-good tactic from above to do immediately).”

Here’s a sample Real Life Application:

I am feeling upset with my colleague, which is slowing or stopping me from finishing my own work

Feeling content with myself would help me move forward towards finishing my own work.

The things that make me feel content with myself are: My power affirmation, a look in the mirror, listening to Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine”, receiving a hug, expressing gratitude for something in my life, saying a prayer.

I am going to write down my power affirmation and meditate on it for 10 seconds. I am whole, perfect, sexy, strong, powerful, rich, loving, harmonious, wise, happy, grateful, and free. Then I’ll put “Just Fine” on, and get back to work!

REMEMBER:

  • Resisting emotional energy is any feeling that is HARMFUL TO YOUR GOAL in any given moment. On the surface it can be emotions that are typically deemed “negative” (i.e. fear, doubt, insecurity, anger, jealousy, etc.) However, ANY any feeling slowing you down from your goal is resisting emotional energy. For example, “funny” can be a resisting emotional energy if the desired outcome is to prepare for a serious discussion.
  • Allowing emotional energy is any feeling that is HELPFUL TO YOUR GOAL in the moment. On the surface it can be emotions that are typically deemed “positive” (i.e. love, joy, gratitude, abundance, confidence, etc.) However, ANY feeling that moves you towards your goal is allowing emotional energy. For example, “defensive” can be an allowing emotional energy if the desired outcome is to stand up against abuse.
  • There’s all kinds of ways to shift emotional energy, depending on the time, environment, and situation you are in. Use what you know about yourself to create a menu of shifters such as:
    • Taking a walk/stretch
    • A few deep breaths
    • Playing a song/video
    • Saying a mantra/affirmation
    • Looking at a beautiful image
    • Reading a motivational quote
    • etc, etc, etc.
  • Get creative–really think about the things you can do to make yourself feel whatever emotion you want to feel. What has made you feel the allowing emotional energy in the past?
  • The RISE process can take a while to complete effectively–sometimes days or weeks. Or it can be done in a matter of seconds/minutes if you really strengthen this muscle within you.

The key here is to do the work now to BUILD AN ARSENAL of emotional energy shifters, so that when needed in the moment, you can know automatically what you need to do for yourself to shift to a better place before responding to any given situation. It takes a keen sense of self-awareness, and practice of course. But, you’ve got nothing but time to perfect this critical skill.

RISE above.

DREAM Tips For Your Life

January 2, 2013 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott

Goals, resolutions, goals, resolutions…it’s certainly been a theme. I believe that the reason most New Years resolutions fails is the mistake made in only resolving to take on major changes as a new year approaches. There’s no magic associated with January 1 that flips our commitment switch! January 1 is a fresh start. But EVERY DAY is a new opportunity. Oh and making sweeping major changes? Honey, please! Do yourself a favor and implement a number of small, but meaningful changes that you can actually stick as time passes over the year.

Now that we have that resolved (do you see what I did there??), I want to share a few tips with you! I’m trying not to repeat anything I’ve already seen (and there was a DELUGE of goal tips circulating online and in email as 2012 wound down!), but these are tried and true methods that work for me!

Whether in shape or out of shape, our workout journey begins the same. LACE EM UP!

DREAM Body Tips

  • Put your workout clothes on every day. Donning those sneakers, regardless of how you feel about working out, drastically increases the chances that you’ll actually move your body. Getting dressed is half the battle.

  • Look at your body everyday with appreciation. Stand before the mirror (clothing optional) and observe yourself without judgment, but with true appreciation from head to toe. Your body is more than its weight/size. Take a moment to appreciate all it does for you beyond the way it looks in clothes.
  • Here’s a way to ensure you get that daily multi-vitamin down. Put it on your alarm clock. Each night, after you’ve set your alarm, set your multivitamin right on top of it! The closer to the SNOOZE the better. When it goes off in the morning, you have more than a reminder to take your vitamin. You have your vitamin! No excuses.

Get that vitamin down as soon as you get up!

DREAM Life Tips

  • Schedule meditation time daily. While some prefer to meditate into sleep, if you aren’t single, this can create distance between you and your partner. (Sorry honey, no snuggles tonight, must meditate). So I recommend starting your day with your meditation and visualization exercises, which may mean waking up 30-60 mins earlier than normal. Or, split your lunch hour: Eat for 30mins, meditate for 30 mins.

OHM my God, Meditation totally works!

Midday meditation can be a great boost.

  • Turn your bathroom mirror into a dry erase board. Get a dry erase marker, and write out your goals, your power affirmation, or even an outline of your D.R.E.A.M. plan. You can’t miss it throughout the day, and you can change it whenever you want, with no need to invest in a pricey whiteboard. Try it for a week and see how it helps keep you aware and focused on your desires.

DREAM Love Tip

  • Write out a job description for your next date or relationship. Include a “company overview” describing all of the things that are great about you, your relationship mission and vision. Build a list of responsibilities-what you expect the relationship to do for you, the required criteria/qualifications/capabilities. Include how to apply–thinking through the ways you can be accessed and the questions that you need answered right away. You won’t necessarily publish this listing, but it will serve as a road map for your journey to love. BONUS TIP: Do the same thing for your next job. Watch what happens!

DREAM Income Tips

Wealth comes from within.

  • Be genuinely grateful for what you have. When you check your bank balance or count the cash in your wallet say out loud: “Thank you for this $X.XX.”
  • Expect and visualize having more. Two concrete ways that I do this: When I get receipts from the ATM showing my remaining balance, I visualize an additional 1 in the front and 0 on the end of the dollar amount number (before the cents) So, if I have $136.38, I visualize it for a moment as $11,360.38. On check stubs, I take a pencil and alter the amount by adding a 1 to the front and a zero to the end of the entire number, then I change the decimal to a comma. So, if the check stub says $1,000.00, it becomes $11,000,000! Visualizing that amount feels pretty darn good. I will usually express or write beneath it: “Thank you for this eleven million dollars! I am RICH! This Stuff’s Working!” NOTE: Do this on stubs only. Do NOT alter actual checks. :)

Thank Outside The Box

November 28, 2012 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott

Being thankful is easy during the holidays, or when someone has done something for you or when something good has happened to you. However, the power of gratitude is amplified when it is directed towards that which isn’t expecting it. So, I encourage you today, and everyday, to “thank outside the box”. It might look something like this:

I’m grateful for the money I don’t have, because it’s teaching me how to utilize my other resources.

I’m grateful for being under the weather, because it’s forcing me to slow down and take better care of my self.

Thank you that this didn’t go my way, because now I can explore other opportunities.

Thank you for the tears I cried, because I really needed to release some pent-up emotion.

Thank you for this obstacle, because I know it comes with opportunity attached.

You might feel that the words ‘Thank You’ are overused or overrated. If the words are spoken with little actual gratitude attached, then I would agree–it’s a thanks for nothing.

But when you reach deep for gratitude and deliver it from the heart to any situation, positive or otherwise, then you are adding value not only to the thanked person or situation, but to yourself.

Like attracts like. So gratitude attracts gratitude. Giving thanks attracts more to be thankful for. That’s how This Stuff’s Working! Make it work for you-in every situation.

I have a lot of good to be grateful for these days. As a life coach, I get to inspire people to upgrade their lives. As an author, I get to teach people to create their DREAM. As a human being, I get to experience this beautiful world with free will and a sound mind.

I have my share of struggles to thank as well. I’ve learned to become thankful when I fall short, because I’ve learned more about my growth needs. I’ve discovered something new about the distance that I have left to travel on this journey called life. I’m learning to be grateful for some of life’s painful moments because they connect me to my strength.

I know it’s not feasible to thank every struggle. But more often than not, there’s something to be grateful for in a situation. You don’t even have to work very hard to find it. The next time you face a challenge or obstacle, instead of opening your mouth to whine or complain, take a moment, breathe and then find some appreciation instead. Don’t say thanks for nothing. Seek out genuine gratitude in your heart. It is there, and it will help you and your situation. In other words, push your TUSH: Thank Until Something Happens.

The Law of Attraction: If Wishing Made It So…

October 31, 2012 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott

A GOAL without a PLAN is just a WISH

Let’s get real.

Understanding and applying the Law of Attraction is not about making wishes, then sitting around waiting for them to come true. There is a lot of skepticism and criticism aimed at the Law of Attraction because a lot of it has been oversimplified so drastically. I am not knocking those that tout and believe in the power of positive thinking. A positive attitude is certainly essential.

But, if wishing made it so, everyone on earth would have what they want–and everyone in the world would be wearing a This Stuff’s Working bracelet and buying my book (my personal wishes)!

No my friends, this is not a place where you will be told that ALL you have to do is think positive, feel good, and SHAZAM! This Stuff’s Working! Face it. The only magic genie in this process is you.

There is a quote by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry that says, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Do some wishes come true? Absolutely. But for the most part, we don’t have the kind of lives we live because we wished for it. Our lives, and the things and people in them, are the result of ACTIONS we have taken to attract them. Truly, your wish is YOUR command.

Ask yourself, what dictates the actions I take, or don’t take, on a daily basis? You act on your beliefs. Your beliefs are driven by feelings. Your feelings are a summation of your thoughts. This is how thoughts become things. This is what like attracts like means. This is the Law of Attraction.

If we take that the other way, thoughts become feelings, feelings shape beliefs, and belief drives action. That’s the way This Stuff’s Working!–with action. You have to do something. You have to plan, you have to try, you have to ask, you have to do the doings–all while keeping your thoughts and feelings powerfully focused to serve your intention. This is certainly not the first blog to share this information, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you’ve heard this all before. But, are you applying it in your life? Are you proving it’s working? That’s the goal of this blog, not innovation.

So, how do you know if you are wishing versus attracting? Here’s a few tips:

  • If you think about wanting something once or twice, then forget about it, you are wishing.
    • If you remain regularly focused on a desire and all of its details, you are attracting.
  •  If you look at something and say, “*sigh* That would be nice, but…” , you are wishing.
    • If you look at something and say “Wow! That will be wonderful and I’ve got something that can get me started towards having it for myself!”, you are attracting.
  •  If you want or need something, but your emotional state about it is depression, anxiety, or resentment, you are wishing.
    • If you want or need something, and your emotional state about it is grateful, expectant and optimistic, you are attracting.
  •  If you go on and on about how much you want something, then don’t lift a finger to try and get it, you are wishing.
    • If you express a desire, then immediately begin to brainstorm what you can do now to take a step closer to it, you are attracting.
  • If you put some pictures on a board, then walk away from it without another thought, it’s a wishing board.
    • If you have a visual collection of things you desire that you view, meditate on, affirm and update regularly, visualizing those things manifested and tracking your actions and progress towards those things, it’s a vision board.

Do you catch the drift here?

The divide between wishing and attracting is a stream, not an ocean. It is a short journey to cross over from one to the other. Start by focusing on what you want. Stop making excuses and start believing that there is a way to receive what you want. Get your emotions in tune with the desire. GET TO WORK! And, do more than want it–VISUALIZE yourself having it.

Wishing is easy, with a high failure rate.

Attracting is simple, with a high success rate.

Which are you primarily relying on to create your life?

You Are What You Say You Are

October 23, 2012 - Author: KishaLynn Elliott

Are you working on your ROAR?

How do you talk about yourself? Are you more likely to praise or criticize yourself? Do you compliment yourself and highlight your strengths, or are you more likely to confess your flaws and shortcomings? It’s so important to watch what you say about yourself. Every time you open a mouth and begin a sentence with the word “I”, you are creating yourself as you speak. This Stuff’s Working! means that like attracts like and your thoughts become things. Your words have the same creative power because they reflect your thoughts. You are what you say you are.

For example, if you say, “I have a “brown thumb. I can’t grow plants!” then guess what? Every plant or flower in your care will die before its time.

If you say, “I’m bad with children.” then working with kids will always be a challenge for you.

If you say, “I’m a terrible singer.” then every note will remain off-key.

If you say, “I am a horrible test taker.” then you will fail exams.

If you say, “I’m a bad cook.” then you will burn water.

If you say, “I’m so clumsy.” then you will constantly stumble.

Anything you say you are is true. You say it and life affirms it for you. That’s the way This Stuff’s Working! The problem is the tendency to focus on, and say, the wrong things about yourself and your life. As a result, you might have more evidence of the things you don’t do well than confidence in the areas that you are improving or currently excel in. It’s time for a shift. Do yourself a HUGE favor and apply the same truth to good or desired things with similar confidence.

If you can be so sure of the things you can’t do, why not apply this power towards constructive thoughts that will actually create what you desire for yourself? It’s the same power. All that is required is a change of thinking, rephrasing how you speak about yourself, and feeling the same confidence in your abilities as you previously felt in your inabilities. It’s a simple, but powerful shift in your conversation.

Start saying:

“I’m getting good at…”
“I’m really good at…”
“I’m still learning to…”

These statements affirm your ability, increase your confidence, and as a result you attract more evidence of this into your life.

Many of us don’t realize how much we degrade and depreciated ourselves everyday. It’s become so second nature for those who have not yet learned or embraced how This Stuff’s Working! to feel inadequate or not good enough. A lot of us even laugh at our flaws. There’s nothing wrong with that, if you do so with full love, appreciation and acceptance of who you are. But if you want to change something about yourself, please know that the the very first step to changing is NOT to take some direct action in the world without, but to instantly go within and see your perfection in your mind.

Feel yourself mastering the creation of your desires, trust that you will learn all that you need to know, and feel yourself succeeding at it now. This feels much better than resolving to fail. Change the “I’m bad at…” thoughts to align with your ideal vision of yourself. This way, when you go to learn, you will be fully receptive, and skills are acquired through practice.

You are attracting all that you are, all that you do, all that you have, by what you think, feel, and say. Use this knowledge wisely and rightly, and watch what you become as a result. This Stuff’s Working! always–keep it working FOR you.
